HONEY

In Oriental dishes intended as aphrodisiacs, honey is a frequent ingredient.

Galen, a Greek of the second century A.D., court physician to the Emperor Marcus Aurelius, recommended as an effective aphrodisiac a glass of thick honey, taken before bedtime, together with the consumption of almonds and one hundred grains of the pine tree. The recipe was to be followed for three successive days.

A compound of honey, pepper, and ginger is recommended as an aphrodisiac by the thirteenth century Arab physician Avicenna.

HORSERADISH

As a condiment, reputed to have a stimulating sexual value.
